oneworld airline alliance takes over Star (ferry, that is)

2 de junio de 2002

Hong Kong: oneworld™ has expanded its lead as the most international of the global airline alliances, with its network now serving 135 territories and countries - 9 per cent more than the nearest rival airline alliance, Star.

The news comes as the Chief Executives of the eight oneworld carriers – American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Iberia, LanChile, Finnair and Aer Lingus – meet next week in Hong Kong, directly after the International Air Transport Association's (IATA's) annual World Air Transport Summit, held in Shanghai on Monday and Tuesday (3-4 June).

During their visit, oneworld will announce a series of key initiatives to deepen significantly co-operation between its members, building on the US$1 billion a year of benefits they derive from the alliance already and further enhancing services to customers.

In a break from preparations for the meeting, crew from the five oneworld carriers represented in Hong Kong are pictured on The Star Ferry across Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour, from left: Cathay Pacific's Vivian Ng, Finnair's Queenie Lo, American Airlines' Betty Wong, British Airways Yvonne and Qantas Cindy Chiu.
